About Me

I just transferred from University of Missouri--Columbia this semester to live at home and save money.  This is the first blog I've ever had; I'm not much of a talker.  I will give my thoughts and ideas on something if you ask for it, but other than that I don't see me using this all that much unless there are other blogging assignments in the future.

Blogs vs. Wikis

Blogs are personal online journals that can be viewed by anyone who subscribes to the blogger.  Wikis are online "encyclopedia" entries that can be edited by anyone.  Both can offer advice or information on a certain topic.  While wikis may be easier to access, they may not always be accurate since they can be edited by anyone with a computer.

In today's fast-paced, fully-networked world, information is literally at your fingertips.  As the work world focuses more and more on group projects, it is ever more important to be able to converge and collaborate with your group effectively.  As technology improves, so does the ability to collaborate with others instantly, no matter where the people in your group may be.  This ability gives us instant feedback on an idea or product, better allowing us to make improvements.

Blogs are a great way for people to collaborate with each other.  Because can only be edited by their authors, blog entries are always reliable and cannot be edited by others with malicious intent.  By subscribing to the blogs of others in your group and having them subscribe to you, you can quickly and conveniently post new ideas and leave comments on the ideas of others.

Honestly, I cannot think of another use for wikis.  I'm not that kind of a thinker.
